I was tired of reaching under my monitor.
Why I built it
Switching computers shouldn't mean poking at monitor buttons.
One shortcut
Choose a key combination once. Use it from any app whenever you want to switch.
Quiet by default
Other Mac lives in the menu bar and doesn't show in the Dock. You can hide the menu bar icon too.
Everything stays local
There's no account and nothing is sent anywhere. The app only remembers your display and shortcut settings on your Mac.
How it works
It changes the input your monitor is already using.
Most external monitors support DDC/CI, a standard that lets apps change settings such as brightness and input. Other Mac uses it to choose the input connected to your second computer.

Open the app
Other Mac finds the compatible displays connected to your Mac.

Pick an input
Choose the HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C port used by your other Mac.

Set a shortcut
Record a key combination. Pressing it changes the monitor input.
Keyboard and mouse
A monitor with a KVM can switch those too.
Other Mac only changes the video input. If your monitor has a built-in USB/KVM hub, set it to follow the active input and your keyboard and mouse will move with the picture. A multi-device keyboard and mouse work too.
Free and open source
This is a small app I made for my own desk.
I'm not selling it and there's no paid plan. I put the code on GitHub because other people might have the same setup, and because I like sharing the little tools I make. Use it, change it, or send a fix.

Approve the download, then approve the app.
It currently runs on Apple silicon Macs with macOS 13 or newer. Your external monitor also needs DDC/CI.
- 1Download the DMG
Download Other-Mac.dmg and try to open it.
- 2Approve the DMG
When macOS blocks it, open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway for Other-Mac.dmg.
- 3Copy the app
The disk image will mount. Drag Other Mac to Applications.
- 4Launch Other Mac
Open it from Applications or Spotlight. macOS will block the app again.
- 5Approve the app
Return to Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway for Other Mac.
- 6Open and set it up
Launch Other Mac, choose your second computer's monitor input, and record a shortcut.
